Publication Description

This research brief was prepared by the American Institutes for Research (AIR) on behalf of the Consortium for Applied Studies in Jewish Education (CASJE) with funding from The AVI CHAI Foundation and The Mandell L. and Madeleine H. Berman Foundation.

It is the first in a series of briefs to probe deeper into the research report, Leadership in Context: The Conditions for Success in Jewish Day Schools. This study is part of a multiyear research project on Jewish educational leadership.

Researchers and policymakers have advocated for the continued professional development (CPD) of school leaders as a key strategy for quality education and school improvement. In several states, there are explicit requirements for annual CPD of public school principals. Presently, in Jewish day schools, there are no standards or consistent expectations for leaders’ CPD.
